I'm a dolphin fan and I'm not too thrilled on saban as the coach. He seems to be a good coach but the NFL is much different than college...Saban proved to be a good coach at LSU but let's face it, schools lke the ones in florida, oklahoma, and LSU simply have more talented athletes than the rest of the country. Bigger lineman, faster corners/receivers, and a higher budget for facilities. In the NFL, the gap in talent isn't nearly as large. All the teams in the NFL are very talented with them all having the best athletes in the country.

With that said, if there is a college coach to get, Saban is one of the best, I wish the dolphins the best and hope saban is the answer they've been looking for....

Iowa +7

I liked Iowa +7 against LSU & also a good chance to win straight up......this hiring just makes me like it even more!!!!! Players feel let down, especially underclassmen who don't know who their coach is next year.

I too am a Dolphin fan that has painfully watched Dave Wannstedt play Mr.Nice Guy for what seemed like an eternity. Finally we have a coach, a real coach that will have control over all aspects of the team. Coming from college(LSU) should be a benefit at this time. We will be revamping the roster due to salary cap reasons, as well as removing "older, dead weight" and adding younger players to fit the mold that Saban wants. As far as your concerns about Saban being a good "college" coach, and The NFL being different Shdw01, a quote from Bill Belichik, "Nick Saban has taught me more about football than I have taught him". Saban was the defensive coordinator for Cleveland when Belichik was the head coach there in the early 90's. No, Cleveland wasn't great at that time, but Saban's defense was #1 in the league! Prior to that he was head coach @ Toledo, and led them to a 9-2 record in his only year there. After that he coached Michigan State and LSU, and we all know how good that went. We(Miami ;)), got a Bill Parcells desciple, a coach that commands respect, a meticulous motivater with a drive to win that is second to none. This isn't Daniel Snyder hiring Steve Spurrier, and I guarantee he won't be mistaken for Dave Wannstedt either. One last guarantee....the days of having 6-7 Pro Bowlers on your defense, the NFL's sack leader, the NFL's leading rusher all on your team, and not even making the playoffs as a wildcard, is a thing of the past here in South Florida. Finally.

Dave Mellon, as a fellow Dolphins fan since I was a kid, I 100% agree with everything you just said.

Kudos to Wayne Huizenga for closing this deal :dancefool

Well, I have to say I am very weary of Saban but you have good points. Personally, I would've rather held on the college coach with an agent that just wants the most money possible. But those were good points you brought up and I really hope Saban is the answer. I have been tormented enough since shula left. JJ held down marino and we all know how sad the last 2 1/2 years have been.

Well, good luck to the Dolphins in 2005 and I'm still crossing my fingers Peyton will get one and only one more TD this regular season!!! lol....hope the christmas' went well..

A first time NFL head coach with responsibility over player personnel makes for impending disaster.

Someone point out to me one person who has been successful with total control in the salary cap era.
